Jacqueline Wiedemer

Student Intern Counsellor

Our student intern counsellor, Jacqueline Wiedemer, is trained in basic counselling skills from her graduate studies at Providence Theological Seminary in Winnipeg.  Her first degree, acquired here at the University of Prince Edward Island, set the groundwork for her present Master’s degree in Counselling.  Jacqueline is proficient in four languages and, as a Christian, Jacqueline can provide a safe space with a Biblical foundation as you address your thoughts, emotions, and behaviour.

We have chosen to provide internships for students in need of supervised counselling placements, not only to benefit Christian students in training, but also to provide counselling at a reduced rate, making it more affordable.  Interns work under the direct clinical supervision of Dwight Ingersoll, an experienced therapist, which means you get access to the knowledge of both the student and supervisor.  In addition to coursework, all interns complete additional training and receive regular consultation throughout their practicums.

Interns may not be equipped to counsel clients with more intense, specified needs, so it may be beneficial for the supervisor to provide more thorough counselling services at the regular session fee.  Please keep this in mind when contacting the practice for an appointment.

My Approach

My name is Jackie and I am excited to be working as a counselling intern at Pathway Christian Counselling. I am currently completing my master’s degree in counselling at Providence Theological Seminary and will be graduating in April 2025. Apart from that, I have an undergraduate degree with honors in Psychology from UPEI. My passion lies in the integration of psychology and Christianity and the ways we can combine the best of both worlds to become the person we are meant to be.

I come from a large multicultural family with big personalities. I grew up in Germany, but in 2015 I moved to start a new chapter here on PEI. Currently, I have five nieces and nephews and enjoy defending the title of “favorite aunty”.

From a young age, I’ve been actively involved in various church ministries and activities. Leading vacation bible school, organizing youth retreats and young adult groups have been rewarding experiences and have given me much insight into working with people from different (faith) backgrounds and the reality of church life.

It is my hope to serve Islanders and to support them so they can find hope, healing and ways to move forward in their mental health and faith journey.
